About Virtual Appointments
Because we must adhere to the start and end times of scheduled appointments, there are several important things you can do to prepare for the appointment.
To schedule an appointment call us at 613-701-1222 or email us at info@leafwmc.thedev.ca
Guidelines for All Virtual Appointments
Remember that all of your appointments are medical appointments and that privacy is extremely important. To prepare for your appointment with one of our doctors or registered dietitians, we ask that you do the following regardless of the nature of your virtual appointment:
- be ready 3-5 minutes early for your appointment;
- be in a calm, quiet, and private place where you will not be distracted or interrupted;
- let the doctor or dietitian know if anyone else is in the room with you and introduce them if so;
- minimize distractions (eg: background noise like radio, other devices that might interrupt your session.)
- for initial consultations, please have a list of:
- prescription medications you are taking, the dose of each medication, and when you started taking each one;
- vitamins and supplements you are taking, the dose of each vitamin or supplement, and when you started taking each one;
- allergies you have been diagnosed with and the severity of each one;
- medical and surgical history;
- for all appointments, have a list of:
- your questions or concerns;
- any changes in health including changes in medications;
Guidelines for Video Appointments
Join your video appointment 3-5 minutes before the scheduled start time. We will use Zoom to conduct the video appointment. Communications through Zoom are established using 256-bit TLS encryption.
You can bypass the Zoom application download process and join a meeting directly from your browser by clicking the link in the email.
If you prefer to use the Zoom application, you can download for:
When you first join your video appointment, you will be placed in a video waiting room. Your LEAF clinician will 'pull' you into the video appointment as soon as they are ready to start your appointment, which should be on time.
If you are unable to join your video appointment by the scheduled start time, do not worry, your LEAF clinician will call you at your (1) mobile number or (2) home number and make the appointment a telephone appointment. If, despite these efforts, we cannot reach you by telephone, then your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
We will do our best to ensure that any information you provide us during your video appointment is private and secure. However, just like online shopping or email, video care has some inherent privacy and security risks. Emails, texts, or calls you receive are not secure in the same way as a private appointment in an exam room. There is an increased security risk that your health information may be intercepted or disclosed to third parties when using video or audio communications tools. We want to make sure you understand this before we proceed.
Use a private computer/device (i.e. not an employer's or third party's computer/device), secure accounts, and a secure internet connection. For example, using a personal and encrypted email account is more secure than an unencrypted email account, and your access to the internet on your home network will generally be more secure than an open guest Wi-Fi connection.
You agree to let us collect, use, or disclose your personal health information through video or audio communications (while following applicable privacy laws) in order to provide you with care. In particular, the following means of electronic communication may be used: email, text messaging (including instant messaging), videoconferencing, website, or other means.
If it is determined that you require a physical exam, you may still need to be assessed in person.
Video care is not a substitute for attending the Emergency Department if urgent care is needed.
If you accept the above information, then please proceed with your video appointment. Otherwise, please call the clinic at 613-701-1222 to cancel your appointment.
Guidelines for Phone Appointments
Be prepared to receive the telephone call 3-5 minutes before the scheduled start time. If we cannot reach you by telephone, then your appointment will need to be rescheduled.
